Our News

Our Hovercrafts.
In science, we were learning about friction and that when two surfaces rub together, friction is caused.  we discussed how the amount of friction created depends on the type of surfaces that are rubbed together.  We learnt that there is less friction when shiny surfaces are used and more friction with rough surfaces.

We made hovercraftts in class using ballooons, old water bottle tops from sports water bottles and balloons
Community Games
Last week some children from Rang a Cúig participated in the Clones Community Games in Art and Handwriting.  Pupils had to draw a picture that represented some from of sports or write out a poem in their best hand-writing.  Luckily two of the pupils from our classes were chosen as winners and they will now go on to represent Clones in the county finals.  Well done Niamh and Megan, we are all very proud of you.

Garda Mc Cormack visits St. Tiarnachs.
Garda James McCormack came to our school to talk to all the pupil in Rang a Cuig agus Rang a Sé about internet safety.  He reminded us that anything we upload on social media can be seen by our friends, but can also be accessed by others.  We did a quiz with a partner , and some of us had to answer questions truthfully and some of us had to answer questions telling lies.  Then when Garda McCormack called out some groups answers to the questions, we had to decided whether the groups were telling the truth or if they were telling lies.   Garda Mc Cormack was trying to show us that sometimes it is not always easy to for us to decide if someone is telling truth of not and so when we are in contact with someone online, playing on our play-stations, x boxes, etc, we cant always be sure that whoever we hook up with to play with are who they are and we have to be very careful.

When we were finished the quiz, Garda McCormack asked us if any of us were interested in being a Gara.  Lots of us put up our hands and Kieran had to do the Garda test.  He had to say some things like a Garda would say it like "Is this your vehhhiiccle?" and "I'm in the nnnnGardaí" and "Is it time for the tay?.  Kieran passed the test with flying colours and Garda McCormack said he would make a great Garda someday in the future.

World Book Day
On March 2nd, we celebrated World Book Day in St Tiarnachs.  Mrs Feeney asked us to bring in a book from home that we enjoy reading and we were given some time during the school during the school day to read silently.  We also joined up with another class and did paired reading with children who were younger than us.  We joined up with 2nd Class and Ms McCaughey and Mrs Caulfield and we all went to the library to enjoy some reading time together.

The Football Tournament.
This year most of the boys trained with Fintan Kelly. They later went to the Sem in Monaghan to play matches against other students around Monaghan. They played on a Wednesday for three weeks. We had training every Tuesday. We won the tournament twice. It was brilliant. Both 5th and 4th participated. There were three teams. We were so lucky to have a Monaghan player coach us. At the minute, we are playing football every Tuesday. We are so glad to belong to such a brilliant school.

St Brigid's Crosses
On the 1st February, we learned the story of St. Brigid and we made St. Brigid's Crosses too.  We had to bring in rushes and Mrs Feeney showed us how to make the crosses.  It was quite hard at first but we did it.  Most of us used Emma's rushes because they were the best.  We enjoyed it a lot.  Some children made crosses for Mrs Kelly and for Mrs Beggan too. Mrs Feeney gave the people who brought in the rushes a homework pass and we were delighted.

1.Roll your cardboard into a tube
2.Put it against your eye and rub your other hand against it.
3.You will see a hole in your hand.
